Interview Coaching

One of the most stressful parts of any job search can be when we land an interview! But it doesn’t have to be. In this consultation, you will learn an array of techniques and strategies to ensure you have a smooth interview as well as doing reviewing various interviews such as phone and behavioral interviews. As well, we will prep you on areas including conducting pre-interview research, body language, attitude, writing thank-you notes and possible interview questions.

A Different, yet Innovative Approach to Interview Prep

There are usually a handful of common interview questions that we will certainly review, but here at Employment Success we take a slightly different approach! In reality, a company can ask you many questions that are not even part of the pool of common interview questions. So how can you succeed? We focus on preparing you for interviews by stressing the importance of research. When you can clearly articulate your skills, experience and expertise during the interview as well as having a strong understanding of what the company is looking for in an employee in applied role, you will truly have a strong mastery of the interview. This all boils down to knowledge through research coupled with having a strong sense of what you want!

Research is Key

In this particular area of the interview prep consultation, we will look into why research is a vital element to your success during the actual interview. We will help you build an effective research strategy in order to ensure that you are ready for the interview as well as for future ones. Sometimes companies give you clues on which possible questions they may ask during the interview on their website; and in some cases, they may provide those questions to you prior to the interview. We will prep on how to effectively compile resources through websites, blogs, social media and even by talking to HR/recruitment staff.

Reviewing Common Interview Questions

Even though we have a successful and innovative approach to our interview coaching/prep session, we will still review fundamental areas including common interview questions such as: Tell me about yourself? What’s your relevant experience? What are some of your successes? We will also review questions that you shouldn’t ask as well as questions the employer can not ask you! However, we will also review questions you can ask your potential employer that can enhance your knowledge of their expectations for the specific role you are interviewing for.

How to Successfully Position Yourself During the Interview

At the end of the day, one of the easiest things to do during an interview is talk about yourself especially when you get nervous. This happens because you talk about what you know…and you know yourself pretty well. However, ask yourself this question: do you think employers want to hear an interview that’s all about you and your successes? Definitely not. In reality, they are interested in how you can help them. As well, the research component is key and will help you focus on important information to guide you on properly positioning yourself during the interview and away from the possibility of being too self-centred. We will dive deep in how you can also provide value or your unique selling proposition—reviewing questions such as: what kind of value will you bring to the role? What kind of value will you bring to the company if they hire you? Instead of the you, it becomes an interview based on how you will be an asset to the company. This shows you as a team player and a person that will want to hire. The easiest way to think about this is how you will properly position ‘your brand’ in the most favourite light during the interview and that means having a team-first mindset that is committed to long-term success!

Mock Interviews are a Great Way to Apply What You Have Learned

A mock interview can be an important opportunity in practicing what you have learned during the course of this session. We will use this time, to ask questions and gauge areas of confidence, improvement and development. We will assess this information and discuss this with you—making sure you are ready for any interview that comes your way.

Its All About Attitude

A major thread that will run through the course of this session is reiterating the importance of attitude! If you have the right attitude and are passionate about doing the best work you can in your professional life, you will have a great advantage over other candidates. We will work with you to foster this mindset as well as helping you to reflect this during your interview in order to win over your interviewers!
